Pet Grooming Is Essential to Overall Pet Care
Pet grooming can be a key part of keeping your furry companion healthy, happy and yes, beautiful. Regular brushing removes dead hair, prevents matting, and keeps the coat clean and shiny. It can also reduce shedding by removing loose hair, keeping your home cleaner! Our pet groomers may discover parasites, a growth, sore, or skin or ear infection that might have otherwise gone undetected.
Our groomers will also trim your pet's nails. Regular nail trimming is important for your pets. Overgrown nails can cause traction problems on slippery surfaces. Long nails can become entangled in carpets and fabrics leading to painful broken toenails. Consequences of neglecting nail care can cause splayed feet and deformed foot structures leading to chronic problems such as arthritis and persistent pain. Overgrown nails can actually curve around and grow into the pet's paw pads causing an extremely painful situation.

Did you know that some breeds should be hand stripped and not clipped or shaved? Dogs with wiry coats, like most terriers, Schnauzers, Wire-haired Dachshunds, and Irish Wolf Hounds should be hand stripped to groom to breed standard. The top coat and under coat grow out of the same follicle. Hand stripping pulls out the dead outer hair from the follicle allowing the hair to come in properly to maintain a thick and wiry coat. Shaving will cause the dog's coat to become softer and allow the follicles to become clogged with fine hairs and oily sebum. Stripping is very labor intensive and most groomers will not do it. It is very much a specialty skill and can cost a lot more than the cost of a clipping.
