Shockwave Therapy

PulseVet Shockwave

Shock wave therapy is a non-invasive, high-energy pressure wave treatment commonly used in human and veterinary medicine.    The pressure wave acts as a mechanical force at the cellular level causing various biological reactions including the release of proteins and other substances which have a profound effect in increasing blood supply to the area, as well as stimulating the release of numerous substances involved in the normal healing process.  Shock wave has also been demonstrated to recruit stem cells and positively regulate inflammatory proteins associated with osteoarthritis.  By stimulating the body's natural healing process, it can relieve pain and promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues as well as by breaking up calcium deposits that cause pain and stiffness.

Although it is a bit loud, our patients have done well with the noise and sedation has not been necessary.  An average sound wave treatment is relatively fast and easy.  Your vet will select the number of pulses for the indication being treated.  Depending on the severity of the disease, your pet may require 1-3 treatments, 2-3 weeks apart.  It is still important to keep exercise and high-impact activity to a minimum in the days following treatment to allow the healing process stimulated by the shockwave to take place.
